Programmes

UNICEF works to ensure that all babies, children, adolescents and their mothers are able to access life-saving HIV prevention, treatment, care and support. UNICEF engages governments and partners around the world to make HIV prevention, testing and treatment as widely available as possible, including in remote areas, in fragile states and among marginalized populations. We promote the integration and expansion of HIV services into maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health services, and the scale-up of paediatric and adolescent treatment. Our work to prevent HIV is specifically targeted to adolescents, and we promote social protection programmes to reduce the risk of HIV infection by tackling some of the key drivers of HIV infections such as poverty, gender inequality and lack of access to education.
