The pilot integrated infant defaulter tracing into the Malawi's Option B+ programme. Description of the intervention and initial results are included here.

Male Study Circles: Men as Change Agents in Malawi - Promising Practice (2018)

This promising practice report highlights male study circles, a programme supported by OHTA, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and District Health Offices. The 188 study circles in three districts aimed to improve linkages between the community and facility as well as promote women’s utilization of ANC and PMTCT services. Lessons learned from the implementation, key outcomes and successes and considerations for scale up are included in this review.

Returning adults and children on ART and HIV-exposed infants to care in Malawi - Poster (2017)

This poster presented at ICASA 2017 highlights a promising intervention to improve client retention in HIV programmes. Beginning in 2015 in Malawi, a collaboration between the Ministry of Health, UNICEF, and UNC-Project Malawi introduced a community-based Expert Client (EC) intervention with a particular focus on HIV-exposed infants and mothers enrolled in the national PMTCT programme.

Community Client Tracing: Mentor Mothers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo - Promising Practice (2018)

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), community client tracing was implemented through Mentor Mothers in six health zones of the Katanga province and six health zones of the Nord-Kivu province. This report includes lessons learned from the initiative and its impact on the uptake of critical services among pregnant and breastfeeding women with HIV (including maternal, newborn and child health and PMTCT services) as well as on retention of women in care.

Adolescent Access to Care and Risk of Early Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission - JAH (2017)

The paper quantifies the risk of early mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV among adolescents enrolled in nationally representative MTCT surveillance studies in South Africa. The authors found that adolescent mothers have three times lower PMTCT uptake and three times higher early MTCT compared to adults.
